Enabling expiry for products

  1. To activate expiration, visit the Settings, navigate to Business Settings, and access the Product section. And check the “Enable Product Expiry” checkbox.
  2. Once you enable Product expiry, you have the option to select either “Add Item Expiry” or “Add manufacturing date & Expiry” when configuring the settings.

“Add item expiry” => Choose this option if you want to add the expiration expiry directly to the purchase screen.

Select “Add manufacturing date & Expiry date” if you wish to include both the manufacturing date and the expiration date for the item. It will auto-calculate the expiry date based on the manufacturing date and expiry period. And this expiry date can be edited. You will have to add the expiry period for the product in the “Add or Edit Product” screen.

And the manufacturing date in the “Add Purchase” screen.

  1. For “On Product Expiry,” you can specify how the system should behave when a product reaches its expiration. Choose “Keep Selling” if you want the application to continue selling the product even after it expires. Alternatively, select “Stop Selling n days before” to halt sales a specified number of days before the product’s expiry date.  You will have to specify the value of n (which is the number of days before you stop selling)
  1. “Stock Accounting Method” => This feature sets how to sell the product.

FIFO (First In First Out) => the old stock should be sold first.

LIFO (Last In First Out) => the most recent purchase stock should be sold.
